Fall brings in great weather to keep our crops going and we are looking forward to a strong fall harvest. Our pumpkin crop is full this year and we will be harvesting some HUGE pumpkins by mid-month. We also have a variety of decorative pumpkins in many sizes and colours.
We have a bumper crop of tomatoes this year and the weather looks like it will allow us to continue harvest for a while. If you are interested in large bushel orders for tomatoes or peppers (for salsa or canning) please give us a call - Wholesale Pricing is available. 519-582-1114

Our hours have changed today to 10 to 6, seven days a week. Our pick-your-own patch is still OPEN and we are still harvesting the June crop. Our raspberries are looking great and we are hoping to begin harvest this weekend. We have added fresh NEW POTATOES to the stand and will continue with asparagus until the end of the weekend.

Our Pick-Your-Own Patch is now OPEN! The cool weather continues to slow down the ripening of the berries and the rain/hail storm we received on Monday made us all shake our heads at the weather! Our strawberries were lucky to make it through the storm without any significant damage, but our tomato crop will definitely be set back. We are looking forward to some warmer weather ahead!

Opening Day! This is our latest opening date in the last three years. The cool nights made it difficult to get the crop up and running but last weeks hot, humid temperatures pushed things along. We are selling asparagus for the first time this year. We are getting it from the DuWyn family just around the corner in Lyndoch and we are excited to add another crop to our stand.
The first picking variety is Veestar. This variety is typically a small, dark red berry with a very sweet, Ontario flavour - a customer favorite for taste! We will be opening the patch up to Pick-Your-Own by early in the week, please call for details or check back on the site.
We are having a fun Pick-The-Baby's-Arrival-Date contest at the stand. His due-date is July 2nd (of course we would love to meet him anytime!!) so drop by and give us your guess - the closest date and time wins 2 flats of Wholesome Pickins Strawberries!!!!

Website is Launched!
We have officially launched our website! As you move around the site you will see that there is still lots of information to come so keep checking back regularly! We will have seasonal recipes posted and nutritional information and storage tips for much of the produce we carry. Feel free to provide us with any feedback you have!
The berry crop is in full bloom and with a chance of frost tonight we will be keeping a close eye on the temperature! We received our first crop scouting report today and everything looks great.
Tomato, Pepper and watermelon transplants are in the ground as well as the first few plantings of beans. Hopefully we start to see some warm, consistent weather so thier growth can really take off!

Planting has started!!
Our new crop of strawberries is in the ground and beginning to take root. We have a new three acre June-bearing strawberry patch and a one acre ever-bearing berry patch.
This years harvest patch looks great! We have removed the row covers and have lots of bright white flowers that are beginning to form berries! As harvest season quickly approaches we will be taking great care to ensure our berries make it to the stand in top shape!

First planting for 2008
We planted our first fruit and vegetable seeds, namely tomatoes, peppers and watermelon to begin growing in the greenhouse. As the weather progresses we will see when we can transplant them into the field.
Land work has begun on the new 2008 strawberry planting and we will begin to plant in the first week of May. It will soon be time to lay the plastic and drip irrigation for our crops. This helps to warm the soil and provide consistent water to growing transplants.
We have also been busy raking the straw off of our strawberries and applying a protective row cover to our early varieties. This cover will keep the plants warm and provide fresh berries 2-3 days earlier!! The straw was put on in late November to cover the strawberries and protect them from extremely cold winter temperatures.
Preparing to open for the season in early June
We look forward to opening for another season in early June. We will see what the weather is like in the next month and how our crops grow. Closer to June, we will have a better idea of our official opening date.
